HOW A RINNAI HEAT PUMP WORKS
Heats water from the air
No gas needed
Rinnai, installed by C2H
1
Draws in warm air

A quiet fan pulls in the outside air, even on cool Melbourne days.

2
Captures the heat

A refrigerant inside the unit soaks up heat from that air, and a compressor boosts it to a higher temperature.

3
Heats your water

That heat passes into the water in the tank, so you get hot water using a fraction of the energy of a standard electric system, and no gas.

The facts, plainly

The 2027 Victorian gas hot water phase-out, explained

01

What's changing in 2027

Under the Victorian Government's Gas Substitution Roadmap, from 2027 a gas hot water system in an existing Victorian home that reaches end of life must be replaced with an efficient electric alternative — such as a heat pump. New homes are already being built all-electric.

02

What it means for your home

Nothing needs to happen today, and no one is removing working systems. But when your gas unit does fail, your replacement options will be electric. Planning ahead lets you choose your timing, your system, and your installer — instead of deciding in an emergency with no hot water.

03

Why switch on your terms

Current Federal and Victorian rebates can take $2,000 or more off the installed cost. Rebates and eligibility rules can change over time — acting while they're available locks in today's incentives.

Got questions?

Everything you need to know

No. A working gas system can stay. From 1 March 2027, if an existing gas hot water system fails beyond repair, it must be replaced with an electric alternative such as a heat pump. Planning ahead means you choose the timing instead of deciding in an emergency.
